Job Description

One of the worlds largest and most highly regarded banks are looking to onboard a senior quantitative analyst to work within counterparty credit risk models based within risk management.

The role of the senior quantitative analyst markets (counterparty credit risk models) is to support the global and regional heads in the implementation and co-ordination of a global vision and strategy. This includes responsibility for the following key aspects:

  • Independent review policy and framework.
  • Independent oversight of all risk models.
  • Independent review of wholesale, retail, operational risk and/or market models in accordance with regulatory requirements, GMO guidelines, FIM. The role holder is required to have a subject matter expert level of knowledge of at least one specialism such as financial vulnerabilities, stress testing or insurance and/or lead the range across a country or region.
  • Keeping the model oversight committees updated on model review work and providing support on model approval.
  • Responsible for implementation of policy cascaded from group risk; accountable for implementation of independent review related policy and initiatives and overall objectives; accountable to regional head for independent review related objectives and initiatives.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Support the regional model oversight committees as the primary forum for oversight of risk models.
  • Carry out independent reviews for risk models developed and support other regions when required.
  • Develop and maintain independent review policy and framework to facilitate model reviews.
  • Customers / stakeholders.
  • Interact with modelling teams to conduct independent reviews of models developed in other regions when required.
  • Interact with modelling teams to provide insightful and constructive feedback on models developed and potential improvements.
  • Interact with regulators and other industry bodies on independent review related matters.
  • Interact with model oversight committees and other regional forums on model related issues.
  • Deliver fair outcomes for our customers and ensure own conduct maintains the orderly and transparent operation of financial markets.
  • Strong communication working alongside modelling to ensure all findings and recommendations are clearly understood; and with group risk to ensure implementation of new independent review policies or standards.
  • Provide support to members of regional and global independent model review functions.
  • Support the regional head in relation to team activity, succession planning, talent management, performance management and improving employee engagement.
  • Operational effectiveness & control.
  • Maintain independent review framework and process.
  • Effectiveness of implementation of IR process, techniques and other associated methodologies.
  • Oversight of implementation of any audit recommendations for IR related areas.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • Experience working in relevant market/context, i.e. Relevant work experience in counterparty credit risk modelling, ideally with exposure to model review.
  • Role relevant qualifications, i.e. Degree or PhD in applied mathematics, quantitative finance or related scientific area.
  • Experience working in relevant environment/s, i.e. deep understanding of the theoretical grounds of quantitative finance and of the corresponding mathematical frameworks is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience working in relevant market/context, i.e. ideally with exposure to model review. Good understanding of counterparty credit risk and the relevant regulatory environment is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience of using relevant software packages, i.e. mastering of computer usage and good programming skills (C++, Matlab, R) is desirable but not essential.
  • Achieved targets and met expectations whilst supporting and encouraging others to do the same.
  • Both spoken and written communication skills with experience of adapting your style and approach to the audience and message to be delivered.
  • Ability to contribute productively to team objectives, sometimes supporting and sometimes leading activities to achieve shared goals.
  • Experience of making prompt and practical business decision, even in times of ambiguity, considering various perspectives and taking responsibility for outcomes.
  • Experience of creating and deploying comprehensive business/operating plans which consistently deliver desired results.
  • Proven experience of successful project management, utilising relevant tools and techniques to ensure consistent delivery.
  • A comprehensive understanding of risk management and proven experience of ensuring own/others' compliance with relevant regulatory processes.
  • Ability to use their business knowledge and understanding of customer needs to successfully manage and grow customer relationships.
  • Ability to critical thinking and intuition of implicit assumptions in mathematical developments.
  • Good communication skills (written and spoken).
  • Ability to formulate complex theoretical problems in plain language and to engage with different stakeholders.
  • Ability to conduct several related projects simultaneously and to meet tight deadlines.
