Job Description

Fantastically broad and business facing opportunity for a qualified accountant to join a growing MGA as their first Finance hire in London.

The business are a large US insurance operator, having expanded into Europe roughly 5 or so years ago with plans to expand into mainland Europe quickly. At the moment Finance is run wholly out of their offices in the US (East coast) however the need has arisen to hire someone mid-level to oversea operations locally in the UK.

The role is best summed up as high level oversight and management of outsourced providers, ie: accounting, audit, tax relationships in the Big 4, to ensure all local accounting/reporting is squared off on time and accurately. This will include signing off on month end and quarter end numbers, finalising interim and year end financial statements and managing all relevant external audits. The secondary focus will be around internal reporting and financial analysis, working with the UK management team and colleagues in the UK to build out some regular management reporting and MI. A high level understanding of tax/VAT requirements would be useful too. As mentioned this role is unlikely to involve too much granular accounting and would suit someone keen to avoid this type of a role.

In terms of candidate profile we're looking at people from two potential backgrounds:

  • An audit manager from the insurance client group at one of the big 4/top 10 looking for their first move into industry OR;
  • Someone working in a MGA, broker or carrier with hands on experience in a wide-ranging accounting/reporting based role, probably operating at senior accountant or finance manager level.

Either way some exposure to the insurance sector is essential given the technical nature of the position and need for someone who can hit the ground running. In terms of personality/profile, you need to be comfortable being extremely hands on and in the detail, dealing with a range of stakeholders internally and externally including colleagues in the US. Longer term the role is likely to evolve into a more senior position and as such presents a superb opportunity to get in early and ride the wave as the business grows.

Salary on offer is £70-80,000 base plus benefits and bonus.
