Job Description

A rare opportunity to join an established tier one venture capital fund as their first Finance & Operations hire; let's face it not many of these roles come about so you'd be crazy not to read on…

The firm have been established for a number of years, having taken off in the last 18 months following a number of successful exits that resulted in eye-watering multiples. Their current portfolio includes a number of well-known tech-orientated businesses at various stages of growth and owing to a successful fund raise, they're seeking to in-house Finance expertise and are looking for their first dedicated full time finance hire.

The breath of the role will cover the full gamut of finance and operations, with an emphasis on adding value and continuing to outsource the more process driven work. This will translate as oversight for all day to day finance matters - fund accounting, management company accounting, corporate and personal tax, VAT and some compliance/regulatory reporting. The expectation would be that you're there to manage service providers, improve the quality of information and MI/financial analysis and play a more active role in areas like valuations and portfolio/performance reporting. But at the end of the day this is an end to end role and you need to be comfortable covering everything. On the plus side it's a small down to earth team, you'll work directly with the Partners/investment professionals and will inevitably get involved in a raft of random and unpredictable bits and pieces. Longer term it's very likely this role will evolve to become a FD position as the fund continues to evolve.

Background wise we're keen to speak to people with excellent academics, CVs that demonstrate a track record of success, progression and stability and more importantly some relevant experience in this industry. Be that working in-house in an alternatives fund like private equity, venture capital debt, infra or similar OR alternatively someone working at Manager or Senior Manager level in a Big 4 firm with relevant funds clients looking for a first move into industry. What would be the icing on the cake would be some exposure to corporate and/or personal tax and/or VAT; not an expert but an appreciation and high level understanding would be a great starting point.

Beyond this it goes without saying that you'll need to be happy in a small company, with plenty of personality, confidence and gravitas to match. No wallflowers. Flexible working is on offer although nothing is set in stone given their size, with the focus being more on what you deliver. Please get in touch for more information or with any questions. All applications are treated as strictly private and confidential.
