This long standing Lloyds & London Market Insurer who are part of a large international insurer is looking to appoint a Senior Credit Analyst into their Political & Credit Risk Insurance team. This role would lead the credit review & portfolio management process associated with the underwriting of credit & political risk insurance.

You initial role will be to review existing credit policy and procedures including rating models, develop the credit file database, ensure fit for purpose risk models, review credit limits and monitor exposures for existing clients.

Beyond this, you will be responsible for helping guide the underwriters in making prudent underwriting decisions for new insurance policies. There is a great deal of variety to the territories, tenors and types of risk that would be insured and thus your role would have a broad scope. Examples of this would be; producing analysis on a LatAm telecoms company to establish credit worthiness in insuring a bank who wish to lend to said company, reviewing the credit worthiness of an emerging market bank with respect to a bank-to-bank loan from a major European bank, reviewing the country risk associated with insuring a ministry of finance loan for a sub-Saharan sovereign or sub-sovereign, reviewing the structure and credit worthiness of obligors for long term asset finance (aviation / shipping), etc.

This would really be a challenging and varied role which spans credit risk, country risk, portfolio management and deal structure. You would also have responsibility for guiding and mentoring a junior Credit Analyst to carry out the more administrative tasks and regular review associated with this role. It could suit someone who has a number of years' experience in a banking environment but wants to try something new. Please note, this role is very hands on, this isn't a team leadership position per se and you should wish to be closely involved in transactions.

To be considered for this role you must have:

  • Broad experience and understanding of Trade Finance structures used within Investment Banks, especially those lending to emerging markets. Ideally you will also have knowledge of Project and Asset Finance structures.
  • Experience in working for a major emerging markets team within a large Investment Bank, Commodity Trading House or Political Risk Insurance team
  • Experience in both credit and country analysis, with a focus around emerging market corporates / sovereigns rather than emerged market clients. Some knowledge of Political / Credit Risk Insurance as a capital relief / risk sharing solution would be ideal but not essential.
  • Your experience should be primarily, or largely within medium - long term debt instruments including Trade Finance, Project Finance, Aviation Finance, Structured Credit, Oil & Gas Lending, etc.

If the above describes you, please don't hesitate to apply by attaching a full CV as well as current and expected remuneration. The client is willing to pay a generous six figure basic salary as well as annual bonus and benefits structure.
