Working as part of a specialist team that's highly embedded in with the investment teams, responsibilities will encompass:
- Lead support on quarterly (and occasional ad hoc) valuations of illiquid fixed income and equity asset investments
- Preparation of valuation reports Preliminary review and analysis of business plans and cash flow models
- Formulating and robustly defending valuation opinions
- Review of draft valuations performed by junior valuation staff
- Development and update of valuation models
- Collation of underlying financial data from investment managers, providing relevant challenge where necessary
- Management of valuation roll-forward process for equity and credit assets at times other than full valuation dates
- Oversight and performance of periodical deep dives into asset valuations
- Drafting of papers for submission to the scheme's Fair Value Committee on both technical and non-technical matters
- Assist the Head of Investment Valuations with control and process improvements and provide ideas and thoughts as to how the department can continue to evolve and improve
- Attendance at Fair Value Committee meetings to provide relevant technical input to the Committee as required
- Supervision and coaching of more junior specialist valuations staff
- Communication of key judgements and conclusions to investment accounting function
- Documentation of procedures and controls, identifying and implementing process change requirements
- Preparation of committee reports
- Assisting with the review and challenge of externally performed property valuations
- Assisting external valuation advisers with the performance of the external valuation process
Your background is likely to be:
- Prior experience - roughly 5 years+ or equivalent - in a valuations role at a large global accounting or advisory firm or in industry for a fund or large corporate. Specific sector or industry experience isn't essential.
- Extensive prior experience of drafting valuation reports
- Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
- Excellent level of Excel and financial modelling skills, working with integrated forecast models for large businesses
- Experience of dealing with external clients or influencing at senior level within an organisation
