A growing specialty insurance company is looking to hire an Actuary. This is a fully remote opportunity.

Responsibilities

  • Enhance Rating Tools: Gain hands-on experience with internal raters by supporting maintenance, functionality expansion, and process optimization to improve usability and accuracy.

  • Enable Seamless Underwriting: Work in tandem with underwriters to ensure smooth deployment of raters and proper capture of key rating inputs for monitoring and analytical use.

  • Drive Pricing Innovation: Conduct deep-dive studies and ad hoc analyses to update or improve rate plans, identify rating enhancements, and apply advanced techniques-such as predictive modeling, statistical learning, and benchmarking-to improve pricing accuracy and underwriting outcomes.

  • Monitor Portfolio Performance: Contribute to ongoing portfolio management through tracking rate changes, assessing rate adequacy, and performing due diligence to identify emerging risks or opportunities for improvement.

  • Partner on Strategic Initiatives: Collaborate with senior underwriters and cross-functional teams to build knowledge of the business, execute line-specific deep dives, and uncover drivers of profitability and loss trends.

  • Mentor and Lead (as needed): While primarily an individual contributor role, there is opportunity to mentor junior team members or assume direct management responsibilities, depending on leadership ability and interest.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years of relevant experience, or 2+ years with an advanced degree; equivalent experience will also be considered.

  • Actuarial credentials preferred (ACAS or FCAS); near-ACAS candidates with strong technical skills and relevant experience are also encouraged to apply.

  • Solid experience in commercial pricing, particularly within Excess & Specialty lines; familiarity with General Liability and Cyber lines is a plus.

  • Background in quantitative modeling or research, especially with experience in machine learning, predictive modeling, or econometrics, is strongly preferred.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Power BI; strong programming and data manipulation skills in tools such as SQL, Python, R, or Multirate.
