A top insurance company is looking to hire a VP & Actuary to lead a high-performing actuarial team. This is a hybrid position based in the NJ area.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to expand their strategic thinking, business acumen, and leadership capabilities through meaningful, data-driven work. While the primary focus is on North America, there are also opportunities to support international projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership: Oversee a team of 10+ professionals across onshore and offshore locations. Collaborate with managers to establish priorities, delegate tasks, streamline workflows, and ensure high-quality deliverables are completed on time.
- Catastrophe Analytics: Lead actuarial efforts to produce catastrophe loss projections, reporting, and analysis. Drive the ongoing transformation of catastrophe processes and communicate changes in loss estimates to senior management. Serve as a subject matter expert on catastrophe-related data.
- Performance Monitoring & Trend Analysis: Support performance monitoring and emerging trend identification. Lead initiatives focused on productivity, large loss handling, and loss development. Present findings to senior leadership across Actuarial, Claims, Finance, and Underwriting.
- Data Strategy & Quality: Champion a data-driven culture by advocating for improved data quality and accessibility. Partner with Business Intelligence and Data teams to ensure alignment between data strategy and broader organizational goals.
- Strategic Contributions: Contribute to strategic initiatives and lead departmental transformation efforts using strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required; ACAS or FCAS designation with at least 10 years of P&C actuarial experience.
- Demonstrated leadership experience with a proven ability to manage teams and deliver complex projects.
- Strong strategic and financial judgement.
- Advanced Excel skills; familiarity with VBA is a plus.
- Experience with SQL Server; knowledge of R or Python preferred.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools like QlikSense, Power BI, or Cognos is a plus.
- Strong analytical and communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly.
- Organized, adaptable, and effective in a fast-paced environment.
