Global Investment Bank is currently looking for valuation controller to join their London equity derivatives team. This role has been created through an internal move and is an ideal opportunity for a Valuation controller who is keen work in a broader finance role for a high profile equities desk.
Responsibilities:
§ Day-to-day Valuation control responsibilities for equity flow derivatives products along with oversight of P&L and Balance Sheet produced by an offshore team.
§ Identify and investigate valuation discrepancies and liaise with Front Office, Risk, Operations and other finance teams to resolve issues.
§ Analyse drivers of P&L and balance sheet movements, providing commentary and insight for management
§ Ensure adherence to accounting policies relating to repos, including sale and repurchase accounting, as well as compliance with FIN41 and IFRS netting guidance for financial instruments.
§ Working with the valuation methodology team to ensure ongoing review & enhancement of valuation control methodologies and practices. Ensuring procedure documents are accurate and up to date.
§ Assist in the streamlining and enhancement of all equity valuation control processes and becoming actively involved with system development ranging from technical enhancements and new product releases to automation of existing processes.
§ Contribute to governance processes, operational error reporting and support of other internal control process, including SOX.
§ Contribute to audit engagements, addressing queries on valuation, accounting treatment, and finance controls.
§ Provide finance support on new product approvals, system implementations, and accounting policy changes affecting repo activity.
Requirements:
· Proven experience in a valuation control (IPV) role covering equity derivates products or experience in the Big 4 auditing IPV functions.
· Prior experience in Product Control - ideal but not essential
· Qualified Accountant - Ideal but not essential
· Strong control mindset
· Proven experience of initiating and identifying areas of process improvements
· Excellent academic background (minimum 2:1 degree) in a mathematical/economics subject.
This is a high profile role for the desk and will involve regular interaction with key stakeholders across the business including front office traders, it is therefore important that you have strong interpersonal skills. The company offers a hybrid flexible working environment with 3 days in the office and realistic career progression opportunities to VP level in the future.
