A leading financial organisation is seeking a Director to head the Technology Controls and Assurance function. This role is responsible for overseeing the assessment and management of technology-related risks by ensuring robust control frameworks that meet regulatory expectations. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in technology audit within regulated financial services, combining thorough audit expertise with practical risk management skills.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a risk-focused assurance strategy covering controls over technology infrastructure, applications, cybersecurity, data governance, and emerging platforms.
  • Lead independent evaluations and audits to assess the design and operating effectiveness of technology controls, ensuring timely remediation of identified control weaknesses.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders in technology, security, and risk teams to continuously enhance the control environment and assurance processes.
  • Manage assurance planning, integrating enterprise risk priorities and regulatory requirements into a cohesive programme.
  • Provide clear and insightful reporting on technology risk issues, control performance, and remediation progress to senior management and governance committees.
  • Act as a senior liaison for external auditors and regulatory examiners on technology control matters.
  • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team, fostering a strong risk and control culture within the technology organisation.

Candidate Profile:

  • A minimum of 15 years' experience in technology audit, controls assurance, or risk management within complex and regulated financial institutions.
  • Proven leadership in technology audit or assurance programmes, with experience in internal audit and/or external audit environments.
  • Strong knowledge of IT governance frameworks, cybersecurity principles, operational resilience, and relevant regulatory standards.
  • Ability to translate audit findings into actionable control improvements and sustain remediation efforts.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to influence senior stakeholders effectively.
  • Professional qualifications such as CISA, CISM, CRISC, or CISSP are highly desirable.
