Underwriting Portfolio Manager

I am working exclusively on a senior opportunity with a global specialty insurer seeking a Portfolio Manager to play a pivotal role in shaping underwriting performance and long-term strategy.

This is a high-impact position, sitting at the centre of portfolio oversight, analytics, and commercial decision-making. You'll work closely with underwriting, actuarial, risk, finance and other key functions to ensure the portfolio remains disciplined, profitable, and aligned with strategic goals.

What You'll Do

  • Lead portfolio reviews across multiple product lines, analysing performance trends and highlighting areas for optimisation
  • Build and maintain dashboards and reporting that give real-time visibility of underwriting outcomes
  • Challenge and refine risk appetite, business mix, and capital deployment
  • Evaluate new opportunities, product developments and market movements, assessing their impact on portfolio stability
  • Contribute to the design and improvement of portfolio management frameworks and governance standards
  • Present insights to senior leadership and support committee-level discussions
  • Collaborate across the business to ensure cohesive, well-informed strategic decision-making

What You'll Bring

  • Strong experience analysing or managing underwriting portfolios within the London or specialty insurance market
  • Solid understanding of underwriting performance drivers, insurance financials and cycle management
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and the confidence to challenge constructively
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to translate data into clear strategic recommendations

If you're motivated by influencing underwriting strategy and want to be part of a forward-thinking, collaborative environment, I'd love to hear from you; sam.crayk@eamesconsulting.com
