We're recruiting for a Multiclass Senior Underwriter to join a leading UK insurer's Birmingham team, taking genuine autonomy over portfolio direction, broker relationships, and team development.

Key Responsibilities

• Process new business, renewals, and policy amendments using robust technical judgment while managing profitability targets and maintaining disciplined risk selection within your authority
• Lead senior-level broker conversations and negotiate commercially-balanced terms that deliver growth opportunity while protecting portfolio profitability and underwriting standards
• Develop team capability by coaching and mentoring junior underwriters, fostering stronger technical standards and supporting their progression through the organization
• Drive regional portfolio strategy through data-informed decision-making and close collaboration with senior leadership on market positioning, competitive advantage, and growth initiatives

Qualifications

• Substantial commercial underwriting or broking experience at mid-market level or higher, with proven track record of managing complex, profitable portfolios across diverse risk types
• Advanced technical expertise in risk assessment and commercial pricing, combined with confident negotiation capability and demonstrated ability to lead senior-level trading discussions
• Leadership mindset with proven experience mentoring underwriting colleagues; solid understanding of FCA requirements and regulatory governance frameworks
