Our client is a premier technology center of excellence driving large-scale digital transformation and enterprise-wide technology solutions. They specialize in building advanced capabilities across data science, AI, application development, modern infrastructure, and cybersecurity. They are deeply committed to empowering their people to master their craft through robust, year-round learning opportunities while delivering meaningful, high-impact tech solutions that solve complex challenges at scale.
We are seeking a visionary, systems-thinking engineering leader to step into the role of Director of Engineering on behalf of our client. In this position, the successful candidate will operate as a manager of managers, extending their leadership across multiple engineering squads, technical leads, and major delivery streams. If you are passionate about driving modern digital initiatives, establishing cutting-edge engineering cultures, and navigating complex tech ecosystems to deliver enterprise-grade software with excellence, this role offers the platform to scale your impact.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Modern Craftsmanship
Establish a unified architectural vision and rigorous technical standards across multiple cross-functional engineering squads.
Oversee large-scale technical initiatives, including complex system migrations and major refactoring efforts, to optimize reliability and efficiency.
Drive advanced standards and frameworks for AI-augmented software development, focusing metrics on architectural design quality, defect prevention, and review thoroughness rather than code volume alone.
Balance the delivery of innovative features with continuous tech debt reduction to ensure long-term system health and stability.
Strategic Direction & Ownership
Take full accountability for the outcomes, goals, and technical success of a major enterprise software division.
Translate high-level business goals into clear, actionable roadmaps and Objectives and Key Results (OKRs).
Proactively identify and eliminate systemic bottlenecks, advocating for the modern tooling and infrastructure engineering teams need to thrive.
Anticipate and mitigate technical and operational risks before they impact product delivery timelines.
People Operations & Team Culture
Champion a high-performing engineering culture that prioritizes continuous improvement, open communication, and psychological safety.
Coach, mentor, and develop the next generation of engineering managers and technical leaders within the organization.
Spearhead talent acquisition strategy by setting modern hiring standards and refining interview processes to attract top-tier tech talent.
Conduct regular one-on-ones to monitor team health, gather feedback, and ensure sustained engagement across the department.
Strategic Alignment & Influence
Form strategic partnerships across a matrixed organization to align competing priorities and drive technical consensus.
Lead through influence to facilitate complex technical discussions and champion structural changes that optimize delivery workflows.
Requirements
Extensive experience managing complex engineering organizations as a manager of managers or directing multiple concurrent technical workstreams.
A professional who designs solutions holistically across technology, teams, processes, and organizational structures with a bias for long-term impact.
Deep familiarity with modern software engineering practices, cloud infrastructure, and integrating AI-assisted tools into production workflows.
Exceptional ability to act as a trusted advisor to senior business executives and translate technical complexities into strategic outcomes.
A leader who coaches with clarity and empathy, focusing on long-term sustainable growth and talent development.
