Head of Cyber Security Operations

We are supporting a leading financial services organisation in the appointment of a Head of Cyber Security Operations.

This is a senior leadership opportunity for a Cyber Security professional who enjoys being close to the operational side of security. The role will have ownership across the organisation's cyber defense capabilities, with a strong focus on improving detection, response, security controls and operational resilience.

You will lead a team of security professionals and work closely with technology and business stakeholders to ensure security is embedded across the wider technology environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the organisation's cyber security operations function, setting direction across day-to-day operations, team performance and security capability development.
• Strengthen detection, monitoring and incident response capabilities, ensuring security events are effectively investigated and managed through to resolution.
• Own the organisation's security exposure and vulnerability management agenda, driving improvements to reduce technology and cyber risk.
• Oversee security controls across infrastructure and cloud environments, identifying gaps and driving appropriate remediation and hardening activities.
• Partner with technology and business teams on security assessments, technology changes and risk decisions, providing practical and commercially sensible security advice.
• Identify and deliver opportunities to improve security tooling, processes and operational effectiveness, while building the technical capability of the wider team.

Requirements

• Minimum 15 years of experience in Cyber Security / Information Security, with significant experience in security operations, cyber defense or security engineering.
• Strong technical understanding of security monitoring, incident response, vulnerability management, infrastructure and cloud security.
• Proven experience leading and developing security professionals, with the ability to balance people leadership with technical oversight.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to work with senior technology and business stakeholders.
• Experience in banking, insurance or another highly regulated environment is preferred. Relevant professional certifications such as CISSP, CISA, CRISC or CCSP are advantageous.
