Lead Software Engineer

We are partnered with a Financial Institution seeking an experienced Lead Engineer / Development Manager to spearhead the engineering delivery and architectural evolution of their Front-Office electronic trading ecosystem.

The platform is a mission-critical, enterprise single-dealer and algorithmic trading engine servicing global institutional clients. It governs the complete trade lifecycle including real-time pricing feeds, order capture, algorithmic execution, and post-trade processing across eFX, FX Options, Rates, and Structured Products.

This appointment represents the first strategic development leadership seat being established locally in Singapore for this platform. You will serve as the principal hands-on technical authority on Day 1, with a clear organizational pathway to scale and lead an engineering squad in Singapore as regional headcount expands.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive technical architecture, system design, and hands-on delivery utilizing modern Java (Java 17/21), Spring Boot, and event-driven microservices.

• Play a central architectural role in a high-priority, multi-year transformation program replacing legacy vendor trading platforms with proprietary, in-house built engines.

• Design and optimize execution engines, pricing pipelines, and messaging channels engineered to meet tight latency targets (~2ms) and market data rates exceeding 100,000 ticks/second.

• Serve as the key technical liaison for Singapore-based trading desks, quantitative developers, and Product Managers. Translate complex trading business requirements into scalable engineering solutions and manage live production issues.

• Champion engineering best practices, including Test-Driven Development (TDD), CI/CD automation, and design pattern standardization, while mentoring developers across globally distributed development hubs (Singapore, Europe).

Key Requirements

• Minimum 8 years of professional software engineering experience, with significant tenure spent building and owning Front-Office (FO) trading platforms within tier-1 investment banks or financial institutions.

• Financial Domain Knowledge: Strong functional depth in at least one key asset class: Options, Derivatives, Fixed Income, or eFX-including pricing models, trade lifecycles, and risk integration.

• Technical Competencies:

  • Core Languages: Deep proficiency in modern Java (Java 17/21), multithreading, concurrency, low-latency design patterns, and JVM performance/memory tuning.

  • Architecture & Messaging: Proven experience architecting microservices with enterprise messaging middleware (Kafka, Solace).

  • Frontend Awareness: Solid conceptual understanding of modern Web UI frameworks (React, TypeScript, WebSockets) to interface effectively with UI engineering teams.

• Proven communication maturity and resilience to manage requirements and navigate direct discussions with front-office traders and business heads.
