Senior Underwriter

We're recruiting for a Senior Underwriter to join a leading UK insurer's South Region team, driving profitable growth across the Commercial business.  This isn't just technical underwriting; it's about building broker relationships, prospecting large clients, driving new business, and developing underwriting talent across the region.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and develop a broker panel across the South Region, being recognised as the regional underwriting expert for Commercial business, with authority to handle larger, more complex cases
• Lead underwriting strategy for your specialist area in collaboration with the Regional Manager and the Regional Underwriting Manager, influencing UK Product Heads on appetite and strategy while taking referrals of complex risks (potentially from outside the region)
• Drive new business and retention targets through strategic broker relationships, large client prospecting, and leading underwriting and sales visits to key prospects and existing clients
• Develop underwriting capability across the region by building product-specific knowledge and sales skills amongst underwriters, handling technical referrals, and maintaining a strong understanding of policy wordings, pricing, claims, and market dynamics

Qualifcations

• Experienced commercial underwriter with proven track record handling complex cases profitably.
• Strong broker relationship management and business development skills with a hunger for winning business and growing portfolios
• ACII qualified or exempt through relevant experience as defined by FCA, with deep understanding of underwriting lifecycle, pricing factors, and regulatory guidelines
