A look at the last year in the UK life actuarial industry
How do actuarial professionals feel about working in the UK life insurance industry? What’s important to them when looking for a new role? What are their ideal working arrangements? Our life and pensions team recently conducted a survey of nearly 200 professionals employed in the UK life actuarial market to get a detailed picture of current workplace attitudes.
Career progression is life actuaries’ biggest challenge
When we asked respondents to rank the biggest challenges in their current role, almost a third (33%) ranked limited career progression opportunities as number one and nearly four fifths (78%) ranked it in the top three biggest challenges. How can insurers put in place the right development plans to help their actuaries progress in their careers? What other challenges are actuaries experiencing?
Remuneration’s the main motivator when moving roles
When it comes to considering a new role, higher salary and benefits are by far the most popular motivator for life actuaries, selected by nearly half (48%) as number one and in the top three by an overwhelming 92%. How are insurers responding to this and how do actuaries’ expectations on remuneration vary depending on their individual circumstances?
