Focus on insurance: actuarial, claims and underwriting in the USA in 2025
What are the current hiring trends in the insurance industry? What are actuarial, claims and underwriting professionals’ preferred working arrangements? What are their motivators when changing roles? To help us understand how the current market is affecting workplace attitudes, our specialist disciplines team conducted a survey of over 300 actuarial, claims and underwriting professionals working in insurance in the US.
Career progression key to attracting and retaining actuaries
Career progression and growth opportunities are the most important motivator for actuarial professionals when considering a new role, selected by 49% as their number one choice. With only 67% feeling that they’re fairly compensated, employers need to look beyond salary in order to attract and retain actuaries. How can they offer the right progression opportunities to secure the talent they need?
Insurers missing a trick when hiring claims professionals?
With 90% of claims professionals not actively admitted attorneys, organizations are missing out on much of the available talent by insisting their claims adjusters have a law degree. How can hiring companies appeal to a wider range of claims professionals and in the process, widen their talent pools?
Hybrid the ideal working arrangement for underwriters?
31% of underwriters are going into the office three days a week, making it the most common working arrangement. But with 29% saying they’d like to be fully remote, how conducive is the role of underwriter to remote working and how are employers responding to give their underwriters their preferred working arrangement?
