Job Description

Due to an internal promotion my client, with a strong global reputation in the insurance market is seeking a seasoned governance professional to join their established team.

This opportunity is responsible for the oversight of all managing agent governance arrangements, culture, risk management capability and operational resilience contributing to an open and transparent culture of risk management.

Key deliverables include -

  • Responsibility for the oversight of all managing agent governance arrangements, culture, risk management capability and operational resilience.
  • Responsible for recommendations where issues and concerns around managing agent governance arrangements, culture, risk management capability and operational resilience may result in a syndicate capital loading to offset the additional heightened risk posed by the managing agent/syndicate.
  • Accountable for the processes to measure and assess Syndicate Solvency II compliance, in close collaboration with the Capital team's responsible for overseeing syndicate internal models and validation, and to ensure that such views, where they may impact on a syndicate's capital adequacy, are fed into the annual approval process.
  • Responsible for the review and recommendations and working in collaboration with several other key functions, in addition to regular and close engagement with the PRA and FCA.
  • Decision making authority over activities to be conducted within the team to assess managing agent capability of governance arrangements, culture, risk management capability and operational resilience.
  • Responsibility for, and decision-making authority over all relevant managing agent oversight activity
  • Responsibility for understanding the wider regulatory landscape as well as current issues and trends and ensuring that oversight is appropriate to respond to these and is clearly articulated in the Annual Market Oversight Plan.
  • Accountability for the processes within the team to reflect all oversight activity
  • Accountable for the processes within the team relating to SMCR notifications

 

Knowledge & Experience required -

  • Significant and relevant insurance/reinsurance industry experience required.
  • Experience advising on risk management, performance and regulation including the principles of SII, Conduct and Lloyd's Minimum Standards and the approach businesses take to comply with these
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of factors that drive strong governance, an effective Board, developing and executing a successful strategy
  • An understanding of current market underwriting conditions and how particular changes in conditions impact different insurance/reinsurance business.
  • Experience creating a new team with new roles and responsibilities, building development plans and coaching others, developing cross-functional frameworks and processes
  • Extensive relationship and stakeholder management experience at a senior management level.
  • Experience acting as an escalation point for issues and delivering difficult messages to stakeholders
  • Experience of presenting at Board level
  • Exposure to presenting to and/or communicating with regulators
