Job Description

A medium sized and diversified AIM listed financial services company is looking to appoint a group financial controller into a newly created role. This is a critical senior appointment for the business and will be a high-profile role reporting into the group FD with significant exposure to the main Board. Experience wise we're open to people from commerce or financial services but do need someone familiar with plc reporting requirements (AIM exposure a distinct advantage).

As group financial controller you will be responsible for all of the group’s financial reports across internal and external reporting. You will oversee the preparation and presentation of the monthly financial and business commentary pack for the Board, coordinating input from the business unit finance teams. You will also work closely with the group FD in analysing group and divisional performance, preparing group forecasts and managing expectations against analyst forecasts. Externally you will act as the principal point of contact for the group auditors and will project manage the delivery of annual and interim accounts, including liaison with external advisors. Internally you will take the lead in a number of process improvement related projects and be expected to assist the group FD with the broader upskilling and professionalising of finance. You’ll also have responsibility for managing a qualified finance manager with the ability to draw on the resources of the wider finance team for any project related work.

Your background is likely to include formal accounting qualifications (ACA, CA or equivalent) with a preference for someone who has initially trained in an accounting firm. Experience in a PLC reporting environment is essential given the highly technical nature of the role. You’re likely to be already operating at financial controller or head of finance level or similar with proven experience in a senior management position. Strong communication skills and the ability to build up relationships with stakeholders internally and externally are also absolutely crucial given the highly commercial nature of the role. The firm has been in growth mode for a number of years with a clear plan in place to ensure quick succession to the group FD role for the successful applicant.

All in all this is a hugely high profile and challenging role for an ambitious individual, offering significant exposure at Board level with the opportunity to enhance your commercial and business facing skills in a fast growing and entrepreneurial business.
