Leading global insurer are currently looking an experienced legal and compliance professional to be in charge of the full spectrum of legal and compliance for their JV Shenzhen, China.  

This position will have a functional reporting line to the regional general counsel and, as regards compliance matters, to the regional compliance officer, both based in Hong Kong.
 
Key responsibilities include:
  • Overall responsibility for all legal, corporate and regulatory matters.
  • Act as company secretary and assume overall responsibility for the corporate affairs.
  • Provide technical and hands on legal and compliance advice to the management team and business units by advising, developing and implementing legal and compliance solutions aligned to business strategy, philosophy .and plans, as well as supporting day-to-day legal, regulatory and compliance support to the business.
  • Ensure the company operates in compliance with the requirements of Group as well as all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Implement/adapt and manage compliance programs by defining scope, setting milestones, delegating tasks, tracking progress and reporting project results to ensure successful and efficient implementation.
  • Collaborate with regional and group functions, internal partners and multi-disciplinary teams to guide development of company policies and best practices.

Experience and knowledge required:

  • Relevant professional qualifications such as LL.B degree from a leading university and ideally LL.M or similar degree obtained abroad.
  • Significant management experience at a senior level and industry experience in insurance.
  • Track record of effectively managing change and achieving business results.
  • Thorough understanding of legislation, insurance business and industry practices.
  • Understanding the commercial impact of compliance policy and decision making.
  • You are meticulous, analytical and a team player, with strong presentation skills and ability both to write in a clear and concise manner and to manage time in an effective manner  by also being able to work independently.
  • You are committed to continuous learning and willing to keep up to date on new developments in the market.
  • You are comfortable dealing with and able to communicate effectively to senior management and business unit heads. 
  • Fluent in Mandarin and English. Fluent Cantonese is a plus.
