We are currently seeking a Senior Underwriter for our New York City office with expertise in casualty liability (re)insurance, encompassing General Liability, Automobile Liability, and Excess and Umbrella coverage. This role will report to the Senior Facultative Officer within the Traditional Casualty Division and will involve a range of responsibilities:

  • Managing all aspects of Broker/Client relationships, including marketing, negotiation, and underwriting of new and renewing accounts.
  • Evaluating intricate risks associated with underwriting a portfolio of casualty facultative business.
  • Assisting in maintaining the balance of the existing portfolio.
  • Contributing to research and development of innovative reinsurance products in the Casualty sector.
  • Serving as a knowledge source across the organization by disseminating current casualty marketplace information via emails, SharePoint, newsletters, and presentations.
  • Conducting research on emerging exposures.
  • Monitoring and controlling various liability aggregations across the company.
  • Providing client service and management, including support for underwriting audits, account maintenance, and servicing of current and prospective clients.
  • Representing the company in marketing activities to maximize (re)insurance opportunities.
  • Traveling to client sites and industry meetings/conferences.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 7 years of industry experience handling individual risk accounts.
  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Insurance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient understanding of (re)insurance underwriting concepts, practices, procedures, and techniques.
  • Prior exposure to the E&S market and construction product line is highly desirable.
  • Established relationships with brokers and clients are preferred.
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt, manage multiple concurrent projects, and influence outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills with external and internal stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel for underwriting meetings, audits, and conferences as needed.

Work Schedule and Compensation:

  • This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement of 3 days in the office per week and 2 days remote, subject to office practices and business needs.
  • In addition to a competitive base salary, this position offers a comprehensive benefits package, paid time off, and incentive pay opportunities. The anticipated annual base salary range for this position in New York is $160,000 - $200,000, excluding benefits and incentives. The actual salary offered will be based on the applicant's skills and experience level.
