My recruitment career started in 2014, working for a large global agency in Singapore, specialising in finance and risk management, and then relocating to the US, building out an actuarial function for an insurance-specialist in New York City.
Working in this industry allows me to build longstanding relationships and help clients of all sizes solve their talent challenges, as well as consult on their growth strategies. It provides me an opportunity to drive real change in the industry and I love the consultative nature of what we do.
I love working with start-ups, VCs, private equity, fintech’s and insurtech’s, especially when dealing directly with the decision-maker. You get to see the individuals in the roles you've supported make progress through the years which really drives me. I work with clients that share my values – my mantra is ‘I wouldn’t work with a client I wouldn’t work for myself’ which is extremely important to me.
My specialist area is the mid-to-senior level, for technical quant areas of risk, cyber pricing and data science – especially niche hires, or challenging roles where I can really dig into the market research.
I joined Eames Consulting in 2022 to launch the brand's first US office in New York. I am primarily focused on building an infrastructure for the business to succeed, developing a strong client strategy in areas that are in stronger demand and attracting top recruitment talent to join the team.
What does being an opportunity maker mean to you?
It really is being someone that can open doors for others. People have to trust you to buy into you and if you are true to your word and work hard – it will pay off. It also requires a degree of empathy to understand what ‘opportunity’ means to different people.
What makes a successful recruiter in your team?
Resilience, empathy, active listening and a growth mindset. Having a desire to improve yourself and being humble enough to reflect and not take yourself too seriously. We are here to work but work does not have to be a bad thing!
