Delivering Claims and Technology talent to scale a digital-first global TPA
The Client
A rapidly scaling, post-funding Insurtech Third Party Administrator (TPA) offering AI- and data-driven claims management, working with enterprise-level global clients.
A relative newcomer with a digital-first tech stack, the client is in a rapid growth cycle (doubling headcount within the past year) and represents a new generation of Insurtech companies using technology to revolutionise claims processing at scale.
The Challenge
Rapid growth with demand for the client’s TPA solutions expanding across a global client base created capability pressure across multiple departments, including Insurance and Technology.
There was a need for a hiring partner with genuine, rare dual capability across both departments.
On the candidate side, attracting technology talent involved enhancing perception of the client’s coverage and reputation for digital-first innovation in the market, while leveraging our credibility as trusted technology hiring partners.
Some candidates were unfamiliar with the organisation’s technology-driven nature, associating insurance with a more technologically conservative industry.
The Solution
The relationship began on the insurance side, with partner and associate director Wise Stine’s team in our New York office placing senior insurance roles in Claims across property and auto lines, as the client scaled its core TPA function.
The depth of trust and delivery quality established through these placements created the conditions for Senior Principal Consultant Shakara Rose to pitch and win the tech desk.
This positioned Eames Consulting as a trusted partner capable of delivering across both insurance and technology, where competitors had typically excelled at one or the other, but not both.
Over the course of the engagement, Eames Consulting:
- Leveraged (initially) an exclusively insurance-focused consultant network, drawing on deep sector expertise and long-standing market relationships
- Secured the mandate to build the client's Technology desk by demonstrating proven reach and credibility across the global data and AI talent market
- Identified transferable technology expertise beyond the insurance sector, mapping candidates with the strongest potential to operate effectively in a digital-first Insurtech environment
- Used consultant credibility and network relationships to reframe candidate perception, positioning the client as a technology-driven innovator rather than a traditional insurance business
The Outcome
The caliber of talent delivered led to:
- 27 placements made within a single year across the client’s Insurance and Technology desks, with a 100% placement success ratio for all tech roles released, including against a competing agency
- Successful placements spanning data analysts, software engineers, Ruby engineers, Python engineering managers, and data and AI product managers, effectively populating the full tech function
- Elevation of Eames Consulting to the status of trusted partner
The Future
After doubling headcount over the past year, the client is well positioned to continue to scale operations.
Additionally, further technology roles under discussion, together with strong trust embedded at HR and senior leadership level, will continue the development of a productive partnership into the future.
“When our Insurance and Data & AI team collaborate, clients discover the value in working with a long-term recruiting partner as a single solution for specialist support.
